Artist and educator, Debbie R. Cooke has taught for 33 years at both the high school and college level.  She has served as an adjunct professor for Furman University,  a consultant for the Polaroid Education Program and the Co-Chair for the visual arts program of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts Summer Program.  In 1998 she was an Artist-in-Residence for the University of Georgia’s Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.  In 2001 she received the “Power of Art” award from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.  The following year she traveled to Tokyo, Japan as a Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar.   In 2004 she was awarded her National Board Certification.

Ms. Cooke has received awards and grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Gallery of Art, the South Carolina Department of Education, the South Carolina Arts Commission and  the South Carolina Art Education Association.  Her artwork has been shown in regional and national shows and was most recently selected for the 2004 Triennial at the SC State Museum.
