Description
The objectives of Drawing and Graphics Class are:
> to explore modern & contemporary approaches to drawing
> understand historic theories and techniques of drawing
> develop color theory skills
> develop practice habits that can lead to mastery of drawing and color theory
> develop a presentation portfolio that demonstrates both depth and variety of media and conceptual approaches to drawing and color.
Throughout the semester the student will complete the following assignments:
> drawing two dimensional issues in drawing; line, contour line, structure and proportion, picture plane.
> drawing three-dimensional issues in drawing; form, cross-contour, overlapping planes, intersecting planes and perspective systems (an introduction).
> using value to describe three-dimensional space, aerial perspective, cast shadow, facets and planes.
> experimenting with non-objective, non-representational drawing; letting the marks and materials express abstract concepts and emotions.
> drawing the human figure; drawing from life; gesture drawing and movement analysis
> portfolio reviews, critique and preparation for an exhibit; photographic documentation and artist's statements; an introduction to making mats and frames.
> color theory exercises with acrylic paint, gouache and mixed media.
