Dance - Jan Woodward, Instructor B.A. Florida State University M.F.A. Florida State University Jan Woodward received her M.F.A. degree in Dance from Florida State University and her B.A. from Florida State University in English with a minor in Dance. Additional training includes the premiere modern dance summer program, the American Dance Festival at Duke University; Manhattanville Summer Dance Program in Purchase, NY; Southeastern Dance Festival, Columbia, SC; the American Dance Legacy Institute in Saratoga Springs, NY; and the Limón Institute in NYC. She has also taken classes at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and Peridance in NYC. She is currently working on her Pilates Mat Certification through the Kane School of Core Integration based in NYC. |

Her awards include: Greenville County Schools 2nd Runner-Up Teacher of the Year 2005-2006; SCDA (South Carolina Dance Association) South Carolina State Dance Educator of the Year 2005; Fine Arts Center Teacher of the Year 2005-2006; Surdna Arts Teacher Fellowship to study in NYC 2005. She has also received choreographic grant awards from SC Arts Commission and is currently on the Approved Artist Roster. She is a current board member of SCDA, lead dance teacher in Greenville County Schools, and serves on the Teacher Forum of the school district. The International Ballet based in Greenville, South Carolina has performed her choreography in Kiev, Ukraine. NEWS from summer 2004: Jan Woodward attended the American Dance Legacy Institute Teacher Workshop in Saratoga Springs, New York the last week in July 2004 where she took technique classes and worked with repertory etudes. She observed dancers from NYSSSA (New York State Summer School for the Arts) who worked with contemporary choreographers Robert Battle, Danny Grossman, and in Martha Graham’s The Steps in the Street (choreographed in 1936.) The dance studios are in the National Museum of Dance, which had an exhibit celebrating George Balanchine, Cambodian dance, set designer Isamu Noguchi as well as their Hall of Fame. A special highlight was a performance at the Saratoga Springs Performing Art Center to see the New York City ballet perform Four Temperaments choreographed by George Balanchine, Fancy Free choreographed by Jerome Robbins, and Musagete choreographed by Boris Eifman. Saratoga Springs has been the summer residence of the New York City Ballet since 1966. |
