Is the Summer Arts Program for You?

The program is geared toward students who:

  1. Have a strong interest in the arts and want to deepen their skills,
  2. AND are in Middle School or High School and are strongly considering auditioning for the FAC in the future,
  3. OR have auditioned for the FAC and want to improve their skills.

Program Structure

  • AM Session: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – This session is for middle school students who desire to improve their fundamentals under the guidance of our teaching artists. Students who are entering grades 7 and 8 may participate.
  • PM Session: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. – This session is for high school students who will work with our teaching artists on sharpening and refining their already present skills.  

Cost

Tuition for the program is $200.00. 
Students from Title I middle schools attend for free and have access to bus transportation.   
Students who have the “Pupil in Poverty” designation may quality for financial assistance.  See “Special Assistance” section below for details.

Your spot is not secured until you complete payment AND we have confirmed your enrollment. Enrollment confirmation will occur after the application closes, around the middle of April.

Areas of Study

  • Morning Session – Led by our own Architecture Foundations Instructor, Mr. Jeromy Ross, middle school students will work in an exciting hands-on, creative environment, learning the fundamental design skills they need to develop in order to be a candidate for our FAC Architecture Program. Attendees will also get to hear from current students about the program and get individualized feedback on how to strengthen their portfolio and audition skills.
  • Afternoon Session – Only newly accepted Architecture students can sign up for this session. Focusing on the fundamentals of drawing, 2D and 3D design, this session allows students to gain a unique “head start,” into the exciting array of projects, essential vocabulary and other skills they will develop in the 2026-27 school year. Attendees will also get to meet and work with some of our current architecture students, providing them a student perspective of what to look forward to as a first-year FAC Architecture student.
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – No upload required.

Both the morning and afternoon sessions will meet students where they are and help them begin the journey to their next level of potential.  Students will learn techniques to improve their writing in specific genres, engage in workshopping with classmates, and take home new perspectives on their craft.

  • Morning Session – this class is for the beginning or novice dancer who has little or no experience with ballet and modern dance styles. We will work with students to develop a basis for technique and movement so that they can continue to progress towards an audition at the FAC.
  • Afternoon Session – this class is for students who have a background in ballet and/or modern dance and are ready to take their skills to the next level.  Classes will be centered on refining technique, with students receiving individualized feedback and exercises to improve their form.

  • Please note: Training invites dancers into Ballet,
    Modern/Contemporary, Composition/Improvisation, and Progressing Ballet
    Technique (PBT). Dancers build technique and artistry through a holistic,
    healthy approach to the body—cultivating awareness, resilience, and thoughtful
    risk-taking.

  • Dress
    Code

    Male: Fitted sweatpants, tights, or
    leggings with a form-fitting solid shirt.
    Female: Leotard with form-fitting
    leggings or tights.
    Please bring socks and ballet shoes.

    Dance is athletic and asks for presence and
    courage; for safety, no jewelry is permitted and hair must be pulled away from
    the face.
    Please bring a closed water bottle for hydration.

  • Morning SessionStudents will get an overview of our program and start to dive into tools they can use their time at home to improve their skills as a filmmaker.
  • Afternoon Session – Students who already have some experience will get exposure to more in-depth filmmaking techniques. 
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS No upload required.
  • Morning Session – middle school students will get their start with improvisation, learning scales, harmony, and technique as a gateway to playing solos. Jazz forms and vocabulary will be introduced during the four-day workshop.
  • Afternoon Session – High school students will improve their improvisational skills, focusing on vocabulary, interaction within a jazz combo, and deep listening skills. Students will perform a collaborative concert at the conclusion of the intensive.
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – Submit a 3-4 minute video. Play 2 different major scales in a steady tempo and a melody of your choice (jazz is preferred, but can also be a short classical piece). More advanced students may include one chorus of improvisation.
  • Morning Session – progressing percussionists will get detailed instruction on improving the grip, feel, rhythmic integrity, and overall technique on snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, and auxiliary percussion.
  • Afternoon Session – this class will serve as the foundation for students who are starting at the FAC in the 25-26 school year.  Students will receive instruction that will help them to start strong in the FAC Percussion Studio. 
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – No upload required. 
  • Morning SessionStudents will get an overview of our program and start to dive into Protools and other software plugins and learn how they can use their time at home to improve their skills as a music engineer, composer or producer. 
  • Afternoon Session – Students who already have some experience recording digital or live music will get exposure to a host of commercial level plugins and we will also cover some of the “good habits” of creating Pro Tools sessions and file management.
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – Upload 1 or 2 mp3 or WAV audio files of some of your best work to be reviewed prior to the workshop.
  • Morning Session – Middle school students will learn exercises to improve tone quality, bowing technique, posture, scale knowledge, and more.  This is an essential program for students who want to eventually audition for our Chamber Strings program.
  • Afternoon Session – High school students – this session will be centered around chamber music and the corresponding ensemble techniques that we teach at the FAC.  Students will be grouped into small ensembles and will learn a piece of chamber music that will enhance their technical skill.
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – Submit a video of 1-2 minutes in length of your strongest playing.  If you have auditioned for the FAC, you do not need to submit a video. If you’ve only been playing for a couple of years, this can be a short etude/study piece or some scales.  If you are more experienced, play an excerpt from solo music of your choice.
  • Morning Session – Do you want to learn the fundamentals of becoming an expressive singing actor? This session is for middle school students who have a passion for singing. The session will cover vocal technique, tone production, breath support, and acting techniques. Students will develop their self-confidence as they work in a dynamic, collaborative studio environment.
  • Afternoon Session – This session is for students who have been accepted into the FAC Voice program or those who are on the FAC Wait List. Students will explore acting through song. Individualized coaching on musical theater and classical pieces will help the participants become expressive singing actors.
  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – No upload required.
  • Morning Session – This session is for middle school students who have a lot of experience playing in band class, but not in smaller ensembles where they need to be more independent.  Students in this session will build confidence by improving their listening skills, tone production, and individual technique.  They will also begin to experience the chamber ensemble format, playing in duos, trios, and more.
  • Afternoon Session – this session is for students who have been accepted into the FAC Winds Studio or those who are on the FAC Winds Wait List.  Individualized instruction will help the participants to take their technique to the next level, building confidence in their musicianship.

  • Are you a maker?  Do you enjoy hands-on projects that require creativity?  Have you ever wanted to be the person creating the lights, sound, and scenery at a performance?  Our TD&P Intensive will provide you with the exposure to this art form, bringing the magic of the backstage technician to life.

  • Morning Session – This class is for the middle school actor who is looking to improve fundamentals in ensemble building, voice and movement work, and auditioning so that students can progress towards an audition at the FAC.
  • Afternoon SessionThis class is for high school actors who have more experience in theatre or musical theatre and who are ready to take their skills to the next level. This session will sharpen and refine skills in ensemble building, voice and movement work, and auditioning to help each student’s overall artistic growth.

Join us on June 8-11 for an exciting Visual Arts Summer Workshop Series designed to spark creativity and introduce students to the dynamic offerings of the Visual Arts department. This immersive experience is ideal for students who may be interested in applying to the Fine Arts Center in the future, offering a meaningful preview of the program while building confidence and skills in the studio. Students will explore foundational art and design techniques through hands-on, engaging projects. The artwork created during the workshops may be used as part of an application portfolio.

The program offers two daily sessions, each meeting for 3 hours. The AM session is open to middle school students of all experience levels and allows participants to enroll in two different 2-day workshops, allowing them to explore multiple materials and approaches. The PM session is designed for high school students of all levels, who will participate in one 4-day workshop for a more in-depth, focused studio experience. Whether students are just beginning their artistic journey or ready to push their creative practice further, this summer workshop series offers an inspiring and supportive introduction to visual artmaking at the Fine Arts Center.

Special Assistance

The Summer Arts Program is free to all students who attend GCS Title I Middle Schools – Berea, Lakeview, and Tanglewood Middle Schools. Bus transportation is available to all participants from these schools upon request. Please email the FAC Director, Vee Popat, to request bus transportation.

Families who are experiencing financial hardship may reach out to Mr. Popat to request a payment plan or discounted rate.
